About VITAMENTOR
Why we exist.
Shopping for supplements is hard. Walk down the aisle of any drug store and you are bombarded with products that make all kinds of grandiose claims of efficacy. Which of those products actually have the science to back them up, and which ones are spinning a tale? It’s even worse when you are shopping online. Any search on Amazon gets you loads of products with brands that you’ve never even heard of. How do you know you are looking at a brand that cares about quality and safety?
What we do.
The goal of this blog is to help you separate the beneficial supplement products from the snake oils, counterfeits, and fad products that are out there. Just because it’s popular doesn’t mean that it will work for you or that it’s a good use of your money. In fact, some products may even have side effects or interactions that you should be aware of.
Our experts take a look at some of these popular products and tell you the real science-based story – backed up with references and links you can follow to read the real science. If the product isn’t pulling it’s weight, we say so, and then we suggest some alternatives to consider that do have the science. Many popular products are really only based on perception and only have what we call “foo foo dust” amounts of the active ingredients.
We are enthusiasts about what supplements can do, but because of our industry experience, we are also skeptics. If a company can’t back up their claims with science and published research, we don’t want to see you spending your money on it. However, don’t take it from us – you should always talk to your doctor before starting any new supplement.
No conflict of interest.
When you see a product discussed on this site, we may provide a link for you to see that product on a retailer’s site. However, our site is ad-supported. We don’t use “affiliate” links where we make money off the recommendation. Why is that? It would be a conflict of interest. VITAMENTOR is an independent resource that is not affiliated with any of the companies that make the products we are reviewing. How could we give you an honest review if we were making money off you clicking those links?
So – you will see ads on our pages, but you know they are ads. Feel free to not click on them. Our main goal is to give you the information you need to make informed choices when you are shopping for supplements. Is the science there, is it a reputable company, is it a safe ingredient? All good questions and we are on a mission to help you find the answers.
